January 2024, Victorita Dolean-Maini was appointed full professor of High Performance Scientific Computing in CASA. October 2, 2025, she will deliver her inaugural lecture, entitled: Solvers and symbiosis: A journey in mathematical learning from local to global.
Victorita’s research focuses on fast, scalable solvers for partial differential equations, increasingly on their interplay with emerging data-driven techniques in scientific machine learning.
In her inaugural lecture, Victorita will reflect on the role of mathematics and high-performance computing in tackling today’s simulation challenges, particularly those involving wave phenomena. She will highlight the growing role of scientific machine learning.
Looking ahead, Victorita will outline a vision of scientific computing as a strong collaborative and enabling force, which connects people, ideas and fields.

Preceding the inaugural lecture, a mini-symposium will be organized, entitled: Solvers, Learning and Applications, in which four speakers (Barry Koren, Tristan van Leeuwen, Kees Oosterlee and Wil Schilders) will showcase state-of-the-art developments for various applications.
