dr. Maxim Pisarenco

Hello everyone,

My name is Maxim Pisarenco, and I (re)joined CASA in May as a part-time Associate Professor (one day per week). I’m excited about this opportunity, which I see as a chance to strengthen the connection between TU/e and ASML.

At ASML Research, we focus on integrating noisy data and physical laws—including models with incomplete physics—into unified frameworks. In cases where the underlying physics is not well understood, we aim to discover it. This places our work at the intersection of partial differential equations, advanced optimization, and machine learning. Currently, I lead research on model discovery and information extraction from scanning electron microscope (SEM) images.

Originally from Moldova, I moved to the Netherlands in 2006 to pursue a Master’s degree here at CASA. That was followed by a PhD at both CASA and ASML. Since 2011, I’ve been working full-time at ASML Research. In these 14 years I worked on various topics ranging from numerical solution of Maxwell’s equations and preconditioning to inverse problems, machine learning, and hybrid modeling.

Outside of work, I enjoy road cycling and spending time with my wife and our three-year-old daughter.

Looking forward to (re)connecting with many of you!
