Hi everyone!
My name is Anna De Magistris, and joined CASA on October 14th, 2025. I’m a visiting PhD student in Mathematics, and I’ll be working under the supervision of Professor Michiel Hochstenbach for the next six months.
I earned my Master’s degree in Mathematics, with a specialisation in Numerical Analysis, from the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” in Italy. My PhD research currently focuses on accelerating first-order deterministic optimization methods, and I also work on stochastic approaches. Furthermore, I collaborate on projects in the field of statistics, particularly in Functional Data Analysis. My main goal here is to further connect these two worlds: numerical optimization and statistics.
In my free time, I play water polo. It’s a sport I’ve been passionate about since I was three, and I’ve also had the honor of playing for the Italian national team.
