Hello, my name is Fatima Fneish, and I am from Lebanon. I joined the Computational Optics Group at TU/e in the beginning of July 2026 as a PhD candidate. I arrived in Eindhoven while my family, like many others, was living through the consequences of a very harsh war on Lebanon and grieving the loss of many beloved ones.
I hold an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the American University of Beirut, where I had the opportunity to work on inverse problems in geometric optics. For my master’s thesis, I studied Sendov’s Conjecture in complex analysis, with a particular focus on understanding the distinctive and relatively recent contribution of Prof. Terence Tao toward this open problem that employed probability theory and potential theory.
I am driven by the pursuit of deep understanding and continuous learning. I value uncovering hidden connections between different fields of knowledge and believe that the most creative contributions are born from deep and clear understanding. I value discipline and purposeful work. Despite the circumstances created by the war, I remain determined to strengthen my commitment to knowledge with purpose, maintain hope, and contribute to this group in the best way I can.
